BOTOX/DYSPORT
Erase the look of fine lines and creases and lift and re-shape your brows with a wrinkle relaxer treatment (eg. Botox®, Dysport®, Nueiva™).
Dr. Andrea tailors the treatment to you, to give you visibly smoother skin, while still maintaining expression and a natural appearing look.
How Does It Work?
Wrinkle relaxer treatments work beneath the surface of the skin to temporarily reduce the muscle activity that contributes to frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet.
Will The Injections Hurt?
Dr. Andrea is skilled at providing a more comfortable treatment as she uses a method called a “distraction technique”, which minimizes discomfort in the areas of injection, by shaking the skin so your body does not feel pain. She only uses very tiny needles for the treatment so her patients find the treatment to be quite comfortable.
Is There Any Downtime After Treatment?
For the first 4 hours after your Botox®/Dysport® injection, try to avoid any activity that may put pressure on the areas treated so that it takes effect in the correct muscles.
Do not touch or rub the areas injected
Do not lie down or bend over to keep the treatment in place
Do not apply makeup or wash your face
Do not wear a hat
Refrain from strenuous physical exertion (e.g. running)
Avoid massages or chiropractic treatments where you may be lying on your front for 1 to 2 days after the treatment
Is It Safe?
Some people are concerned about having Botox treatments, because they are worried that it is Botulism. This is not actually the case. Botox® is made up of Clostridium Botulinum Type A, a substance that is purified in a lab, so that it is safe for injection. For cosmetic purposes, it works by being injected directly into muscles, so that they become relaxed, and the lines and wrinkles in the overlying skin diminish.
Botox is FDA and Health Canada approved. It has been used for medical purposes since the 1990s, and for cosmetic purposes since 2001. It is available all around the world and there is very strong evidence for its safety.
What Are Possible Side Effects?
Side effects may include pain, numbness, headaches, mild bruising, and usually resolve within a few days to a week. Rare side effects are discussed prior to your treatment, but are very unlikely, which may include spread to other areas.
How Long Will It Take For The Wrinkle Relaxer To Work?
You may begin to see results within a few hours of treatment but the full effect is typically achieved by 10 to 14 days after treatment. If this is your first treatment, it may be recommended that you have a follow up appointment in 2 to 4 weeks to assess results.
How Long Will The Wrinkle Relaxer Treatment Last?
The duration of your first treatment typically lasts 3 to 4 months but results may vary with every individual. The effects of the treatments may improve with repetition, particularly if repeat treatments are done on time at approximately 3-month intervals to begin with, and you may be able to extend your treatment to every 4-6 months, depending on the individual.
