LASER HAIR REMOVAL
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal is an effective method at reducing the amount of unwanted hair on your body. At Dr. Andrea Cosmetic MD, we offer the DiolazeXL, a diode laser, which is the gold standard in laser hair removal technology. The laser heats up the root of the hair follicle, and prevents further hair growth.
How many sessions do I need?
Patients may see results after just a few session, but typically at least 6-8 sessions or more are required for hair reduction spaced out over intervals of 3-6 weeks depending on the treatment areas. As each person’s hair growth patterns are different, patients may require touch up treatments if some hair regrows in the treatment areas.
Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
DiolazeXL has a buildt-in cooling component that ensures comfort during your treatment. You may also choose to apply topical numbing cream to the treatment areas for additional comfort.
Which areas of the body can be treated?
Commonly treated areas include:
Face, upper lip, sideburns, chin
Neck
Underarms
Chest, back, and shoulders
Arms
Stomach
Bikini
Legs
How do I know if I am a good candidate?
We recommend consulting with our aesthetician prior to starting laser hair removal to determine if you are a good candidate for the treatment. In general, darker hair responds best to laser hair removal. You may not be able to proceed with treatment if you have any of the following in the treatment areas: rashes or open sores; tatoos; or a history of skin cancer.
How to prepare for my treatment?
Avoid prolonged sun exposure for at least two weeks prior and two weeks after your appointment, so as not to have a fresh tan. Also avoid sunless tanners in the treatment areas.
Shave the treatment areas 24 hours prior to your appointment.
Refrain from plucking, waxing, or using depilatory creams for 4-6 weeks prior to your appointment as these treatments may decrease the effectiveness of your laser hair removal.
Avoid topical products that may irritate your skin, such as retinol or other exfoliants, for 3-5 days prior.
If you have a history of cold sores or HSV in the treatment areas, a prophylactic antiviral medication may be recommended prior to your appointment.
What to expect after my treatment?
You may experience the sensation of a mild sunburn in the treatment areas, as well as mild swelling and irritation at the hair follicles for a few days. Cool compresses and light moisturizer may be applied to calm the skin. Avoid prolonged sun exposure in the treatment areas for up to 2 weeks afterward. Blisters, allergic reaction, bacterial infection or herpes outbreak are rare but may occur. Scarring or permanent changes to skin pigment are very rare.
