Trap BOTOX
If you carry tension in your upper neck and shoulders, and massages are not enough, trapezius (trap) Botox® may offer relief.
By relaxing the top portion of the trapezius muscles, this treatment can ease built-up tension, reduce discomfort, and even improve posture. As an added bonus, many patients also notice a more elongated neckline and a softer, more tapered shoulder contour—enhancing both how they feel and how they look.
How Does It Work?
“Trap Botox” involves precise Botox® injections into the upper portion of the trapezius muscles—the broad muscles that extend from the back of the neck to the shoulders. These muscles often hold onto stress and tension from posture, long hours at a desk, or general muscle overuse. When they remain tight for too long, pain, stiffness, and even tension headaches can develop.
By gently relaxing these overworked fibers, Botox® helps reduce chronic tension, improve comfort, and allow the surrounding muscles to function more naturally.
Benefits of Trap Botox
Patients choose this treatment for both therapeutic and aesthetic reasons. Common benefits include:
Relief from chronic neck and shoulder tension
Reduction in headaches that originate from tight trap muscles
Improved posture and upper-body alignment
A lighter, more comfortable feeling in the shoulders
A more elongated neckline and streamlined shoulder contour
Many patients describe it as feeling “free” in the shoulders again—less heavy, less stiff, and more at ease.
What to Expect
For the first 4 hours after your Botox®/Dysport® injection, try to avoid any activity that may put pressure on the areas treated so that it takes effect in the correct muscles.
Do not touch or rub the areas injected
Do not lie down or bend over to keep the treatment in place
Do not apply makeup or wash your face
Do not wear a hat
Refrain from strenuous physical exertion (e.g. running)
Avoid massages or chiropractic treatments where you may be lying on your front for 1 to 2 days after the treatment
During your consultation, Dr. Andrea will assess your symptoms, muscle tone, and posture to determine whether trapezius Botox® is right for you. The treatment itself is quick and well-tolerated, taking only a few minutes. You may feel mild pressure or a brief pinch during injection, but most patients return to their normal activities immediately.
After Treatment
Mild tenderness or tightness can occur for a day or two.
Results typically begin within 2–4 weeks, with full effect by 4–6 weeks.
Improvements generally last 3–6 months, depending on muscle activity and individual response.
Many patients schedule maintenance sessions two to three times per year to sustain comfort and posture benefits.
